What first got you hooked on your sport?
Sport has been a big part of my life ever since I was a child. I grew up spending lots of time outdoors playing football and tennis. But it was discovering running in my early 20s, and after running my first marathon that I became truly hooked on it. I am now fascinated by what my potential is as a human being and running has become my vehicle for that.
Do you have any rituals, habits, or superstitions before training or competing?
Sleep is my superpower and I try to get a really high quality 8-9 hour sleep every night. 99% of my runs and races are also heavily fuelled by music, so I've always got a pre-prepared playlist ready for the morning of any races or events I do, and for during them.
What would your teammates/friends say you’re known for outside of your sport?
Travel. Time with family and my closest friends. I love a sauna/spa. Cinema and theatre.
What’s been your most memorable (or unusual) moment in a competition?
Breaking the Guiness World Record for running the most consecutive ultramarathons.
Have you got any nightmare cramp stories? And how did you deal with the cramp?
I've done a lot of races in the heat. From the desert in Jordan to Morocco, and I've had chronic cramp multiple times in those environments. The worst one came when I was leading the race in Morocco, and I went on to come second. Chocolate milk is my go-to drink post runs now to help replenish my carbs and salts!
What big goal are you working towards next?
Running the famous Camino de Santiago trail (approx 1000 KM) in Northern Spain this summer!
